Will Wampler’s professional experience includes the implementation of GO Virginia – an economic development initiative that is focused on the creation of higher-paying jobs in Southwest Virginia and other regions of the state. There are several innovative GO Virginia projects now underway in our region that include: a project to retain talented young people in the region and to provide pathways for these students to get high-paying jobs with employers in the region; a project in partnership with Virginia Tech to study new methods and ways to commercialize coal by-products; and a project at Mountain Empire Community College to utilize drone technologies to improve one of our oldest and strongest industries, agriculture.

Wren Williams is an Eagle Scout and the owner of Schneider & Williams Law Firm, along with his wife, Britt. Wren was born in Stuart, Virginia and his family has deep roots in Patrick County and the community.

Wren and his family have run several successful businesses including Ten Oaks Flooring and have employed thousands of people in Southwest and Southside.

Wren graduated from Patrick County High School and went on to attend Hampden-Sydney College as a Patrick Henry Scholar.

Following graduation, Wren attended Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law where he met his wife. After Law School, Wren went back to his hometown to practice law and serve his community.

Tara Durant

Tara was motivated to seek public office after a tense encounter with rioters last summer. Tara and her daughter were stopped in their vehicle in downtown Fredericksburg.

Surrounded by an angry mob blocking the intersection, they were encircled and intimidated as rioters assaulted Tara’s vehicle.

When Tara called the police to restore safety, she was told that the mob’s actions were sanctioned by the city government, and that law enforcement had no authority to intervene to ensure their safety.

After working for a time as a Subcontracts Administrator for BAE Systems Shipyard, Clint Jenkins later became the Ethics Officer for the shipyard. While employed in the ship repair industries, Clint began to work part-time as a real estate agent. After selling Heritage Woodworks, Karen devoted herself to community service.  She chose to volunteer as a counselor for local crisis pregnancy centers, where her mother had been a volunteer.

When Karen’s business acumen was discovered, she was asked to join the staff as manager.  While she streamlined the business operations and improved patient care, Karen continued to serve as counselor.

Shelly Simonds

My husband, Paul, and I moved to Newport News in 2000, when he was hired as a NASA engineer. We soon realized that Newport News was the perfect place to raise our two daughters, Georgia and Tessa. And after my second daughter turned two, I returned to the workforce as a Spanish teacher at their school, Hilton Elementary, and discovered a new passion for teaching. I had never had a workplace where I felt like I was part of a team with such purpose. We spent our lunch breaks talking about our students and how we could encourage them.

I’ve also been a longtime environmental activist. I got my start in Virginia politics as a member of the Legislative Contact Team with the League of Conservation Voters. This work is also incredibly important to me, and something that I want to fight for in the General Assembly, if elected.
