Martha has a lifelong history of public service and dedication to the community. She has lived, worked, and raised her family in the district and she has served on the Virginia 529/Able Now Board, the Hampton Arts Foundation Board, Downtown Hampton Child Development Center Board, the Educational Advisory Committee of Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Association for WHRO and is passionate about education, equal rights for all Virginians, and the environment.

“In the last decade as an elected School Board member in Hampton, I have worked to support academic excellence in our schools. I entered the work with a passion for pre-kindergarten and expansion of Virginia Preschool Initiative funding. Throughout the decade of service, my focus has expanded to Standards of Learning Reform. During my tenure I have participated in efforts to lobby our locality, the Virginia Legislature, and United States Congress and Senate to promote public education, special education funding, and oppose efforts to divert funding away from public education”, said Martha.

“With much encouragement, thought, and prayer, I have come to the conclusion that it is time for me to take my experience to another level.”

“I will always support efforts to protect our coastline and our beloved Chesapeake Bay, as well as, mitigation to address the impact of climate change and sea level rise in our region. I support a resolution to ratify the ERA and of course, support the arts and the creative economy.”

“As the Delegate from the 91st will be a member of the Fort Monroe Authority, I pledge to participate fully and work to ensure this special place is given the opportunity to prosper and maintain its historic integrity”.

“I have lived most of my life as a resident of the 91st House District and believe I know the needs of our community. Having served at the local level on the school board I clearly understand the impact that legislation can have on our localities. It would be my honor to represent the citizens of the 91st District.”
