GMU Student Government

“George Mason University’s Student Government is a permanent standing entity which receives its legitimacy and authority as representatives of the entire student body. We advocate for the interests of our fellow peers, educate the university community with regard to the state of the institution, and represent the interests of each student. Our mission is to do so through serving as a liaison to the administration, faculty, and community.” SG website

GMU Student government, especially the Government and Community Relations committee, and the Students onAir @GMU chapter, are exploring ways to collaborate on the Virginia onAir Hub and the US onAir network of 50 state governance and election hubs.

Our first project is to support livestream debates between Northern Virginia congressional candidates.

Who Writes the Rules Matters

Rosevelt @ Mason seeks to empower students with the resources and environment to become effectively involved in the policy process at the campus, local, state, and national levels. The Roosevelt Institute engages in policy research, analysis, and writing to increase youth voices at all levels of the policy process.

Roosevelt @ Mason promotes communication and coordination with community members, stakeholders, and policymakers in order to create real policy-oriented solutions. The ultimate goal of the organization is to facilitate progressive policy innovation in the local political process.

GMU Student Media

“GMU Student Media is largest classroom on campus dedicated to providing hands-on, experiential learning opportunities for students who aspire to a career in media production or journalism, as well as those who  simply wish to pursue a creative passion or hobby.  With over 60 computers, 4 state-of-the-art audio and video studios, a bustling newsroom, and 16 sections of 1-credit co-curricular workshops, Student Media is a unique learning environment for Mason students to learn new skills and practice their craft by producing content that is seen by their peers, professors, and community.”  Student Media website.

The Students onAir @GMU chapter is exploring how to Mason Cable Network might collaborate on producing its interview aircasts (livestream, student-led discussions) like e.g.  this two minute highlight video  as well as how to support Student Media’s Mason Votes initiative.

Democrats at Mason

The George Mason Democrats are the official representatives of the Democratic Party at George Mason University. We seek to engage George Mason students in the political process by providing opportunities to meet candidates and elected officials, work on campaigns, discuss the most pressing issues of the day, and more.

College Republicans at Mason

The purpose of this organization shall be to bring young Americans into the Republican Party, to mold and train those youth as well directed, effective, and loyal Americans in accordance with the conservative ideals of the Republican Party, to support and assist in the election of Republican nominees in their respective elections, and to create and spread, throughout George Mason University, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the United States of America, goodwill toward conservatives and the Republican Party.

Global Culture Clubs

George Mason has numerous clubs and Registered Student Organizations focused on a country and its culture. Students onAir @GMU is working to establish onAir networks and hubs in democracies throughout the world. See democracies.onair.cc for our first eight democratic countries that we have started onAir networks.

Students onAir @GMU will be reaching to Mason’s international clubs to partner in curating these onAir networks.
