Ronnie Ross is a teacher, coach, and school administrator who lives in western Loudoun County.  Ronnie and his wife Josie have one child: Ronnie. Jr. In fact, it was the birth of his son and the encouragement of his wife that convinced Ronnie to run.  He became deeply anxious about the world we were creating–and leaving–not just for little Ronnie, but for all of our children. When he mentioned to Josie that it would be difficult to run with an infant in the household, she responded with words he would never forget: “That’s fine. It will be hard.  But, when it feels like too much, you can always just look into your son’s eyes and know why you’re doing this.”

Ronnie came to Virginia a decade ago, following a job offer during the worst stretch of the Great Recession.  He had graduated summa cum laude from Wittenberg University and was also a member of the national honor society, Phi Beta Kappa.  However, job prospects were bleak as fewer than one-fifth of graduates in the class of 2009 had a job at the time of graduation. When Ronnie was offered a chance to teach English in Warrenton, Virginia, he jumped at the opportunity to pursue his passion, what he considers to be his life’s work. In 2014, Ronnie went on to earn a Masters of Science in Education, with a focus in School Leadership, from the University of Pennsylvania.

Since that time, Ronnie has made Virginia his home.  Indeed, he has specifically chosen to raise his family here, having fallen in love with the land and its people.  Ronnie grew up in Appalachia, on the Ohio side of the mountain, the son of two public school teachers. There, his parents ingrained the values of hard work and toughness, but also of compassion and empathy.  Most of all, they instilled the value of community. Ronnie found these same values on this side of the mountain, and he has eagerly decided to make his life here. He and his family attend Holy Cross Abbey and they are also active members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where Ronnie is a member of its School Advisory Board.

Ronnie’s personal and professional experience have given him strong insights into the needs of Virginia Senate District 27, whether it’s representing people’s needs in Richmond or listening to them in Boyce.  However, he knows that the biggest part of fighting for you is listening to you, and Ronnie is eager to do both.

“When I was born on the other side of the mountains in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, my parents raised me to take personal responsibility and to be a man of my word.  None of that has changed as I raise my own family over here in this side of the mountains, in western Virginia.” So, with that in mind, Ronnie promises:

  • He will not take money from Dominion or Appalachian Power
  • He will not take money from corporate PAC’s
  • He will hold a listening session in every precinct in the 27th
  • He will make pragmatic decisions based on the best available science and data
  • He will make every effort to work across the aisle as long as his colleagues operate in good faith
