Jen Kiggans

Current Position: State Senator for VA Senate District 7

Affiliation: Republican

Overview:

After earning a degree from Boston University in International Relations, Jen Kiggans stepped up to serve her country in the United States Navy. Jen served for ten years as a helicopter pilot flying H-46 and H-3 helicopters, completing two deployments to the Persian Gulf. Her husband is a retired F-18 pilot who retired after 20 years as a Naval aviator.

Jen is currently a board-certified Adult-Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and graduate of Old Dominion University’s Nursing School and Vanderbilt University’s Nurse Practitioner program. When she is not at EVMS, she serves as a primary care provider for a small private practice. Jen is a passionate advocate for accessibility and affordability of mental health care and mental health screening.

 

Ghazala Hashmi

Current Position: State Senator for VA Senate District 10

Affiliation: Democrat

Overview:

Dr. Ghazala Hashmi is an experienced educator and advocate who has spent over 25 years working within Virginia’s college and university system. She currently serves as the Founding Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) at Reynolds Community College.

Ghazala is guided by the principles of integrity, social justice, and ethics in government in her approach to public service.

Joe Morrissey

Current Position: State Senator for VA Senate District 16

Former Positions: State Delegate for VA House District 74 from 2008 – 2015

Affiliation: Democrat

Overview:

I’ve been working and fighting for a better Richmond since 1989, when I was elected as your Commonwealth’s Attorney and then a member of the Virginia House of Delegates.

As a delegate, I fought for Democratic Party principles, like bringing Obamacare to Virginia, improving Richmond City Schools, and helping people get their right to vote back.

John Bell

Current Position: State Senator for VA Senate District 13 since 2016

Former Positions: State Delegate for VA House District 87 from 2016 – 2019

Affiliation: Democrat

Overview:

Delegate John Bell is a retired member of the United States Air Force. He served almost 26 years before retiring as a Major in 2007. During his Air Force career, John served as a Finance Officer all over the world, including tours in support of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

John has worked across party lines to pass Medicaid expansion, increase school funding and teacher pay, fight for common-sense gun safety reforms and champion policies to address the opioid addiction crisis

Todd Pillion

Current Position: State Senator for VA Senate District 40 since 2014

Former Positions: State Delegate for US House District 4 from 2014 – 2019

Affiliation: Republican

Overview:

Though only in his second full term in elected office, Todd has been recognized as a leader for Southwest Virginia and the Commonwealth through his work on the opioid epidemic, economic development, and promoting commonsense policies good for Virginia families and businesses.

Recently ranked as the second most effective legislator in the General Assembly, Todd is a recipient of the Virginia Chamber’s Innovation Award; the Award of Merit from the Virginia Pharmacists Association; the Child Advocate Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics-Virginia; and The Healthcare Hero Award from the Business Journal of the Tri-Cities, among others.
